Density Assignment
The reason all the people in the village in the valley died was because of the density of the CO2. Because CO2 has a greater density than O, the CO2 flowed down the volcano and slowly filled the village. Basically, all the people slowly suffocated from lack of O.
Antacids
The active ingredient in Tums is Calcium Carbonate which has the chemical formula – CaCO3
In class we discussed how this insoluble liquid reacts with water to form a carbonate, then a bicarbonate, a carbonic acid, and finally a carbon dioxide gas.
From our experiments, it was determined that one Tums is needed to neutralize a can of coke.
Gas Excitation Spectra
The first bar of gas was white (He)
· When putting on the diffraction rating glasses, there were multiple spectrums of color (like a rainbow) that went out from the bar. The two bars that are directly to the left and right of the bar were made up of several lines ranging from blue to red. The strongest were green and orange (and maybe blue).
The second was pink (Ar)
· The two bars that are directly to the left and right of the bar were made up of several lines ranging from blue to red. The strongest were the blue/purple ones (with a little bit of orange ones).
The third was orange (Ne)
· The two bars that are directly to the left and right of the bar were made up of lots of very distinct bars (green-red) and all the others were a bit more blurry and went from blue to red with the strongest being the yellows, oranges and reds.
The forth was pink (N)
· The bars were much thicker and close together. the colors were all quite strong from purple to red.
The fifth was Carbon Dioxide
· There were lots of little bars with one from each color being bring 0 one purple, one blue, green, yellow and red.
